I try to keep a mix :P
I'm a guy and i've got 3 female chars, and 3 male chars :P
Personally I find almost all the armours to be nicer on a female!
but, each to their own ;D

All my chars are female because Im one in rl.
Sure my chars are not representing me, but it is easier for me to... identify myself or bond with my char if it is female... that might sound odd, but I can't think of other ways to say it.
Each their way right

Why waste time staring at pixelated butts instead of just.. playing the damn game?

Basically this, with one exception I am male and have male charrs ...
Although I fully accept other chioces I would find myself playing as a female a bit of ''trans feeling'' ... definitelly I prefer to look (no only) at real female butts

Yeah, about that. Asses are naturally distracting. That's why in high school they told us to face towards the crowd during presentations or people won't pay full attention. The only thing they think is "Butt" or "Look at that Ass".
Any who... I roll girls because not only can I relate, they are for the most part attractive (save the female warriors. Their pencil necks and tiny faces are very distracting and disproportionately annoying). Their armor is usually better than the males. Over all, most female models look somewhat realistic. The male models are bulky and the faces just look wrong.

I use some female characters because male casting animations look terrible (especially the male Elementalist animations).
With some professions I'll run male characters, with others I run female.

I use little female chars becuase i find them cute and cuddly.
But i made a male warrior too, just to piss off afkers dancing behind them, and a big hammer warrior is almost always welcome in a pug (the one i get at least.

Mixture of both though I think I have slightly more female to male, gonna get really complicated when gw2 offers me race and sex to choose from.
Sometimes the choice is based on look ie male necro looks stupid so that was an obvious decision.
Then its the class you tend to expect warriors and assassins to be male so again I made mine female.
Sometimes its the starter armour or the dance routine my male mesmer looks great but the dance is terrible.
Dancing in my undies for gold lol well I haven't done it in in guild wars or live action role playing but tabletop sure I have played D&D Runequest etc and played female characters and uses the female to lure seduce steal from and kill males.
Slightly worried when players talk in a deep voice and say I am a male and only play male characters.
I always thought it weird in role playing games where you would delight in playing a charr but would shy away from the obvious role play of running a female charr.

I pretty much prefer female characters just because i don't want all my male toons acting like "juggernauts" with large bulky armor, that would be almost seemingly impossible to move in IRL (Male-Warrior-Obsidian)

I play female characters because I think all the female armors look way better than the male armors do. The only male character I would play would be a Warrior to get the Silver Eagle armor. Other than that, I'll stick with females.

I don't see why anyone would ever choose a male ele or mesmer. Others I can agree on to roll male, but those? All their armors look hideous, and the characters themselves look aweful as well..
I only run a male necro, because the male necro dance is just too awesome.. Besides that, all female, although I could settle for a male ssin, but that's because I only like 1 female ssin armor, and that's normal Kurzick, dyed black.. I hate female assassins with skirts or bodyparts left open. I mean, what? You're supposed to be some ninja type of prof and you leave an entire arm blank? (elite kurzick) So that only leaves me with obby, normal kurz, vabbi and Ancient.. Ancient, well that speaks for itself... Vabbi, I don't wanna look like I'm wearing spandex.. I actually bought vabbi for my ssin once.. Once I put it on, I immediatly salvaged it.. And obby, well, I don't wanna look like the other 2 million assassins out there with obby armor..
Elementalists, there is nothing more elegant than a female ele in this game, so why roll the ugly male ones?
Mesmers: same, they're very elegant and nice to watch..
Rits: screw rits, I barely play mine..
Rangers: I can see why you roll male there
Warrior and Monks: acceptable to roll male as well, though I prefer female monks..
Dervs: meh, don't like dervs
Para's: who the hell has a paragon?

I have a male monk and ele but all my others are female (dervish, assassin, paragon, mesmer, ranger, necromancer and warrior) for one simple reason, female armor just looks better than male armor.

I'm a guy but I only play female characters in PvP because people seem more forgiving towards female characters. I mean when I play a female monk, mesmer and elementalist people usually don't trash talk at all.
PvE though ... I have to play a Male. I keep my male characters around longer because I feel like I can act like myself and not pretend to be something else. It sounds weird but I've seen it time and time again when I roll new characters.

Honestly, if the guys looked better I doubt there would be more male characters in the game either way.
@MidnightOokami: Every PvP person I know trash talk when they play female chars or male chars. And they trashtalk so much to each other regardless of gender on the characters. Just see when Cnex, Exit, ngty, MaSS or KISS plays. They troll thought. And because alot of them actually are getting pissed off Like Victor for example.

WHenever I hear that argument, I always wonder if it's just about armor and general look. Because I tend to hear it like "derp, when (not "if") I see my toon in my dreamz, I want them to be sexy goodDamit!!! =(((".
Anyway, I still have female on all char for that reason. Like a poster above, I can immerse myself easier that way. Ironically, I think I can immerse better when the character is different than me.
My only exception are rit (the armor are cooler on male IMO) and monk (50/50) As much as I hate the bulk on a warrior, on a pascifist caster doing half-dressed yoga all day, I think it looks good.
Rightnow, most character are male because II made them playing with a (female) IRL friend, it just seemed righter that way.

My preference was based on armor and looks....for example I went male Rit because all the female faces were ugly..am not gonna create a female character and hide her face, I went male Assassin because the female looked anorexic, I went female Nec because the males were too creepy....

I have a few female characters just because I like to play dress up sometimes. But I don't really use them. The female mesmer and ele make me feel like I'm a ditz when I play them, it's very uncomfortable. My female monk doesn't however so she gets more play time.
Also I never understood that saying about looking at a characters butt, I don't look at my Warrior's butt when I'm playing because I'm focusing on what I'm doing in the game. However if I play a female I tend to stare at the character more, thus distracting me and well it's not as productive. So that's why I'm all for the male character.

Whichever gender has the best armor/looks customization of a given profession is the one I roll with. Nothing more to it than that. My two most used characters (Paragon and Rit) are female because of these reasons.

all my chars are males because i am a man and men are awesome!
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/User:Stan_zhao
you can see 2 of my chars lookingly studly and awesome on my old wiki page
but the armor is all just down to personal taste in the end. people who say there arent enough mixing combinations just dont like the armor for the profession or gender.
my sin has E luxon all dyed black and i think he looks good. my war has E sunspear and i think it looks good too.
although, the male warriors do look mostly hideous when you try to mix them up

Because, as the fantasy goes, I'm the mastermind and the pretty female warriors do my bidding. Have the Bond villains taught you nothing, people? Besides, have you even seen how female assassins move in a pair of Seitung pants?
But seriously now; I guess it comes down to whether you personally identify with a certain character or not. For me, GW is a strategy game and the characters are chess pieces. You can have a good looking (and expensive!) chess set and it definitely adds to the enjoyment of the game, but at the end of the day it's the game that matters most.
